How does a piece of paper become a durable decorative surface that lasts for decades? The raw materials of Formica HPL are simple: virgin wood pulp paper and kraft paper. But the process is not. The bottom layer of kraft paper is impregnated with phenolic resin to provide structural strength, while the surface decorative paper is impregnated with melamine resin for wear resistance and decoration. After the lamination is completed, it is sent into a press, where it is subjected to a high temperature of about 150°C and a high pressure of 1430 pounds per square inch for a full hour, with continuous and uniform pressure applied. This process allows the resin to fully cure, resulting in a dense and pore-free board. The thickness ranges from 0.7mm to 2mm, and the fire rating reaches Class B1, which is difficult to ignite.

Many people confuse HPL (High Pressure Laminate) with Compact Laminate. Simply put, HPL sheets are "surface decorative layers" affixed to a substrate, while Compact Laminate is a solid structural material with a thickness ranging from 2mm to 25mm. It is a structural component in itself and can be used as a partition wall panel or bathroom partition without the need for a substrate. Formica Compact Laminate is made by impregnating multi-layer kraft paper with phenolic resin and is characterized by extremely low water absorption and excellent waterproof and moisture-resistant properties. Some products incorporate silver ion antibacterial technology, achieving a 24-hour antibacterial effect of up to 99.5%.

HPL的形态也有讲究。 标准平板规格4‘×8’，直接用于壁面、台面、橱柜。弯曲板则可以在加热状态下热定型弯曲，小弯曲半径可达R5左右，适合弧形吧台、流线型门板等设计需求。180fx大视界系列在5’×5‘尺寸中花纹不重复，完整呈现天然石纹质感，而普通耐火板在4’×8‘范围内约每46cm花纹就会重复。

The form of HPL also has its own considerations. The standard flat panel specification is 4'×8', which can be directly used for walls, countertops, and cabinets. The curved panel can be thermally set and curved under heating, with a minimum bending radius of about R5, suitable for design requirements such as curved bar tops and streamlined door panels. The 180fx large-view series features non-repeating patterns in a 5'×5' size, fully presenting the natural stone texture, while ordinary laminate boards have repeating patterns approximately every 46cm within a 4'×8' range.

富美家HPL的应用场景覆盖商业空间和家居领域：店铺柜台、办公室桌面隔断、厨房台面、浴室柜表面、酒店大堂装饰、公共交通工具内部墙面。耐磨、耐化学腐蚀、防水防潮、易清洁——这些性能源自一百多年前那个“替代云母片”的初衷，如今已经成为现代建筑装饰的基础语言。
